What Is CO-OP Shared Branching? Access Your Fort Financial Accounts Nationwide
Whether you’re traveling for summer vacation, visiting family, relocating, or simply away from home, your Fort Financial accounts can still go with you.
Thanks to the CO-OP Shared Branching Network, Fort Financial members have access to more than 5,000 participating credit union locations nationwide. That means you can conveniently access many of your everyday banking services, even when you’re far from home.
Shared branching is one of the many ways credit unions work together to provide added convenience and value for their members.
What Is Shared Branching?
Shared branching allows members of participating credit unions to conduct transactions at other participating credit unions across the country.
With access to thousands of locations nationwide, the CO-OP Shared Branching Network rivals many major bank branch networks while still delivering the personalized service credit unions are known for.
At participating shared branch locations, you can:
- Make deposits
- Withdraw cash
- Transfer funds between accounts
- Make loan payments
- Access account information
- Receive assistance from friendly credit union staff
It’s like having an extended Fort Financial branch network wherever life takes you.
When Shared Branching Comes in Handy
Shared branching can be especially helpful during life’s busiest moments. Here are just a few examples of when members use shared branching services:
- Traveling and needing quick access to cash
- Away at college and needing to deposit a check
- That's larger than mobile deposit limits
- Relocating out of state while keeping your Fort Financial accounts
- Managing banking needs during severe weather or emergencies
- Making a loan payment while away from home
No matter where you are, your membership gives you access to convenient banking options nationwide.
What You’ll Need at a Shared Branch
Before visiting a participating shared branch location, make sure you have:
- Your Fort Financial member number
- A valid government-issued photo ID
- Your smartphone for IDCheck verification (required for all CO-OP Shared Branching transactions beginning May 1, 2025)
To help prevent fraud and protect member accounts, participating shared branches now use IDCheck verification for certain transactions.
Members can complete the verification process quickly and securely before accessing services at participating locations.
More Than Convenience, It’s the Credit Union Difference
Shared branching is a perfect example of how credit unions cooperate rather than compete. Instead of limiting access to only local branches, credit unions work together to provide members with expanded service and convenience nationwide.
That means you can enjoy the benefits of local, personalized banking while still having access to services wherever you go.
At Fort Financial, we’re proud to be part of a network that puts members first.
